Heat skillet to hot.
Mix milk, cornstarch, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla in a shallow baking dish.
Dip bread in milk mixture, turning to coat both sides evenly. Shake off the excess from the bread and place the bread slices onto the hot skillet.
Fry the bread slices until golden brown, 3 - 4 minutes per side. Wipe skillet, and repeat with remaining butter, and bread.
