Spray a 4 quart container with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large glass bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
Add butter, buttermilk, and egg,
Mix together and continue to work until ingredients are evenly distributed and you have a soft dough.
Place in prepared container. Cover.
Turn 4 times at 30 minute intervals.
Leave alone to rise until doubled in bulk.
While dough is rising, spray a 9-inch loaf pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface.
Form into an oblong shape.
Place in loaf pan.
Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until done. (You may need to cover with foil after 15 minutes.)
