Char Siu Chicken
  1. In a bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice wine, oyster sauce, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, and food coloring (if using). Stir until well mixed.

  2. Place chicken thighs in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over the chicken. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for 2-3 hours.

  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  4. For Grilling: Grill the chicken for 20-25 minutes, turning occasionally and basting with extra marinade, until the chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F / 74°C).

  5. For Roasting: Place chicken on a baking sheet and roast for 25-30 minutes, basting occasionally, until the chicken is golden and cooked through.

  6. Slice the chicken, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, and serve hot with steamed rice, noodles, or vegetables.
