Combine 2 cups brown sugar, 1 ½ cups water, ½ cup maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon flour in a saucepan
Bring the syrup mixture to a boil and set aside
Mix together 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder, and a pinch of salt
Cream together ½ cup room temperature butter and 1 cup sugar
Add 2 eggs to the butter and sugar mixture
Add ¾ cup milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla to the mixture
Combine the wet and dry ingredients together, mixing slowly at first then using a spatula
Grease a baking dish with butter and spread the cake batter at the bottom
Pour the hot syrup mixture over the cake batter
Bake at 425°F for 30-40 minutes until golden on top
Allow to cool before serving
Scoop and serve with the cake rising through the syrup
