1 Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Brown the ribs and sausage in batches until nicely browned on all sides.
2 Remove and set aside.
3 If using meatballs, add them to the pot and brown lightly.
4 Sauté Onions and Garlic In the same pot, add chopped onion and cook until translucent. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
5 Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well.
Return the browned meat to the pot. If using red wine, add it to the sauce.
6 Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Let it cook for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally, until the meat is tender and the sauce is rich and thick.
