Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Melt one cup of brown sugar with one stick of butter on the stove over medium heat. Stir frequently until the mixture melts into a smooth, velvety sauce. Pour the mixture onto the sheet pan and spread in an even layer.
Mix up your favorite French toast batter in a shallow pan (milk or cream, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla).
Dip the bread slices (on both sides!) in the mixture, then arrange them in an even layer on the sheet pan.
Bake at 375 degrees F for about 30 minutes.
