Step 1: Preheat the Oven (or Set Dehydrator) - Oven Method: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Dehydrator Method: Set dehydrator to 130–140°F (55–60°C) and prepare trays.
Step 2: Wash and Slice - Thoroughly scrub the sweet potatoes (no need to peel). Slice lengthwise into ¼-inch thick strips for long chews or cut into ¼-inch rounds for smaller treats. Optional: Drizzle with a bit of coconut oil or sprinkle with cinnamon before baking or dehydrating.
Step 3: Arrange and Cook - Oven: Lay slices in a single layer on the baking sheet. Bake for 2.5 to 3 hours, flipping halfway, until edges are dry and centers are chewy. For crunchier chews, bake an additional 30 minutes. Dehydrator: Arrange slices on trays and dehydrate for 6–8 hours until desired texture is reached.
Step 4: Cool and Store - Let chews cool completely on a wire rack. Once cool, store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
