Chicken Dinner in a Jar

USDA / Ball-Approved CHICKEN DINNER IN A JAR (Pressure-Canned Complete Meal)

Ingredients (per quart jar)

Instructions:

    Cold-Pack Instructions:

  1. Evenly divide chicken and vegetables between jars, ensuring food is more than 1" below top of jar.

  2. Add salt to jars, if using.

  3. Top with broth, fully covering chicken and vegetables and leaving a 1" headspace in each jar.

  4. Remove bubbles, wipe rims, and apply lids fingertip-tight.

    Hot-Pack Instructions:

  5. Simmer raw chicken in broth 5 minutes.

  6. Add vegetables; boil 2 more minutes. Add salt, if using.

  7. Pack hot mixture into hot jars, leaving 1” headspace.

  8. Top with broth, if needed to fully cover chicken and vegetables, leaving a 1" headspace in each jar.

  9. Remove bubbles, wipe rims, and apply lids fingertip-tight.

    Processing (Pressure Canner ONLY):

  1. Let pressure drop naturally. Cool jars 12–24 hrs. Check seals.

  2. Store up to 1 year in a cool, dark place. (Should stay safe to eat indefinitely. Nutritional value may begin to degrade after 12 months.)
