Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add sliced smoked sausage and diced onions to the pan.
Sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sausage is browned and onions are softened.
Stir in garlic powder, salt, and pepper to enhance the flavors.
Pour in chicken broth, heavy cream, BBQ sauce, and uncooked pasta.
Stir well and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover with a lid, and let it simmer for 12-15 minutes until the pasta is tender.
Stir occasionally to prevent pasta from sticking and ensure even cooking.
Once the pasta is tender, remove the lid and stir in grated cheddar cheese until fully melted and creamy.
Mix well until the sauce becomes thick and coats the pasta evenly.
Taste and adjust salt and pepper if needed.
Remove from heat and let the dish rest for a minute to thicken slightly.
Garnish with chopped cilantro or green onions for a pop of color and freshness.
Serve warm and enjoy!
