Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly grease an 8" X 8" metal baking pan. Whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in mixing bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil and egg. Pour buttermilk mixture into dry mixture and stir just enough to wet ingredients. Do not overmix.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes or until top is set and cornbread is lightly golden brown.
