Preheat oven to 350°F.
Butter and sugar an 8-inch square pan (or a 9-inch cake pan).
Cream the butter and 1 cup sugar for 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and mix until combined.
Add flour and baking powder.
Beat on high for 2 to 3 minutes. The batter will be very thick.
Spread batter into the prepared pan.
Top evenly with fruit and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon coarse sugar.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes until golden brown on top.
Let cool for 10 minutes, then run a knife around the edges and remove from the pan.
