Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the cake mix box.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, eggs, oil, and water according to the instructions on the box. Mix well until smooth.
Add the crushed pineapple with its juice to the cake batter. Stir until well incorporated.
Pour the cake batter into a greased baking pan.
Bake according to the instructions on the cake mix box until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
While the cake is baking, prepare the pineapple glaze. In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and butter. Cook over medium heat until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly.
Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and poke several holes all over the surface of the cake using a fork.
Pour the warm pineapple glaze over the hot cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
If desired, garnish the cake with shredded coconut and maraschino cherries.
Allow the cake to cool before serving. Enjoy!
