Place the beef roast into the slow cooker.
Add sliced onion and minced garlic over the top.
Pour in the beef broth and tomato-based sauce, making sure the roast is partially covered.
Sprinkle with salt, pepper, paprika, and onion powder.
Cover and cook on LOW for 8–9 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours, until the meat is fork-tender.
Use a fork to gently shred the beef inside the cooker, mixing it into the sauce.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
