Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
In a rice cooker, heat the vegetable oil and sauté the onion and garlic until fragrant.
Add the rice and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the rice is lightly toasted.
Stir in the diced tomatoes, chicken or vegetable broth, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
Close the rice cooker and cook the rice according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork and serve hot.
