Sort through the beans and remove rocks, half pieces, and any beans that look dark or don't look right
Rinse the beans and add to a pot filled with water
Add ¼ onion and 4 garlic cloves to the pot
Bring to a boil, then cover with lid and let cook for about 1 hour
Check the beans and remove any that are floating on the surface
Add jalapeno juice for flavor
Add 16 more ounces of water to create broth
Cook for 30 more minutes
Add salt generously and stir well
Cook for 15 more minutes to let flavors combine
Beans are done when completely tender (total cooking time approximately 1 hour 45 minutes)
