Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Put the cherries in an 8x8x2-inch baking dish.
Evenly sprinkle 3 tablespoons sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, the lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract over the cherries; stir gently to combine.
In a large bowl, beat together the butter, ⅓ cup sugar, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, and the almond extract until well combined, light in color and fluffy.
Add 1 cup of flour. Mix just until all of the flour has been incorporated and a dough forms.
Take pieces of the dough (about 1 inch in size) and evenly distribute them on top of the cherries in a single layer.
Bake in the center of the oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until the cherry filling is bubbly and the topping is cooked through and just starting to turn lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let cool for about 30 minutes; the filling will thicken more as it cools.
