Marcella Hazan’s Famous Tomato Sauce
  1. Place the tomatoes, halved onion, and butter in a pot.

  2. Set the pot over medium-low to low heat and cook uncovered for about 1 to 1.5 hours until the tomatoes and onions fall apart.

  3. If using frozen tomatoes, cover the pot for the first 30 minutes.

  4. Blend the sauce with an immersion blender until smooth.
