Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in molasses and vanilla extract.
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with hot water, until batter is smooth.
Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
For the glaze, combine butter, molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves and mixture is glossy. Remove from heat.
While the loaf is still warm, brush generously with the molasses glaze. Let the loaf cool slightly before slicing and serving.
