Preheat to 400. Prepare 12-13 baking cups by lightly greasing or by using paper baking cups to line pan.
Combine flour, baking powder, nutmeg, salt; set aside.
Mix eggs, vanilla, zest, brown sugar, butter, oil and applesauce until well combined.
Fold wet ingredients into the dry ingredients; mix well but do not over mix.
Distribute batter evenly between 12-13 baking cups. Stick 3 thin slices of pear directly into top of muffin batter.
Bake 20 minutes or until tops are lightly browned and bounce back.
