In a bowl whisk together milk, oil, egg and brown sugar.
Add the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and spices) and mix to combine.
Spread onto baking dish.
Over the top sprinkle more brown sugar and cover with water.
Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for around 25-30 minutes or until the sponge is cooked and rises to the top.
Allow to sit for 5 minutes at least before serving.
