Combine dry ingredients for scones.
Grate cold butter into the dry ingredients with a cheese grater and stir to coat the butter.
Mix all wet ingredients (cream, egg, pumpkin butter, vanilla) together.
Stir wet ingredients gently with a fork.
Dump dough onto a clean surface and use a bench scraper to gently mix, scraping up from one side and folding it over the top until it comes together. Do not overmix.
Form into a circle, 1” tall and divide in 8 equal pieces.
Brush with heavy cream.
Bake at 400 for 16-18 minutes.
Brown 2 tbsp butter for frosting.
Add ⅓ c maple syrup, 1 tsp vanilla, ½ tsp salt to the browned butter and whisk.
Add in 1 cup of sifted powdered sugar, maybe a little more until it thickens.
Spread frosting onto slightly cooled scones.
Combine pumpkin puree, apple cider, maple syrup, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan for pumpkin butter.
Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer for 15-20 minutes stirring occasionally.
