Boil the pasta, being careful not to overcook it
Fry the chopped onion in oil until browned, but not burnt
Add 1 tbsp of sugar and let it caramelize for about 30 seconds
Add 1 tbsp of tomato paste and cook it down until it darkens a bit
Pour in 1 large can of unseasoned tomato sauce
Add ½ - 1 tsp each of salt, black pepper, and cumin, or adjust to taste
Pour the sauce over the cooked pasta and toss to coat
Save any leftover sauce in the freezer for next time
