Crispy Fried Tofu
  1. Begin by pouring a layer of oil into a 12-inch skillet. Choose a neutral oil with a high smoke point, such as vegetable, canola, or avocado oil. Heat the oil until it reaches 375°F, being careful not to let it burn.

  2. While the oil is heating, break the tofu into bite-sized pieces. This method will create rough edges that will crisp up nicely compared to cutting it into neat cubes.

  3. Next, toss the tofu pieces in soy sauce to coat them evenly.

  4. Then, add the nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well to ensure the tofu is fully coated with the seasonings.

  5. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu chunks to the skillet. Fry them for about 3 to 5 minutes until they start to turn golden brown.

  6. Flip the tofu pieces and continue frying for another 3 to 5 minutes, or until they are golden and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan; if necessary, fry the tofu in two batches.
