Brown Soda Bread Loaf
  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (fan). Grease a 2lb loaf tin.

  2. Mix wet ingredients: milk, yogurt, egg, and treacle.

  3. Add dry ingredients: wholemeal flour, plain flour, bread soda, salt, sugar.

  4. Combine gently to form a soft, slightly sticky dough (don’t overmix).

  5. Spoon the dough into the prepared tin, smooth the top, and cut a shallow line down the middle.

  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped underneath.

  7. Cool on a rack or slice warm with butter.
