Preheat oven to 180°C (fan). Grease a 2lb loaf tin.
Mix wet ingredients: milk, yogurt, egg, and treacle.
Add dry ingredients: wholemeal flour, plain flour, bread soda, salt, sugar.
Combine gently to form a soft, slightly sticky dough (don’t overmix).
Spoon the dough into the prepared tin, smooth the top, and cut a shallow line down the middle.
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped underneath.
Cool on a rack or slice warm with butter.
