Preheat oven to 200 C / 390F (conventional oven) or 180 C / 355F (fan oven).
Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Whisk the eggs and buttermilk together.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix to form a soft dough. Add a drop more buttermilk if needed.
Gently fold in the raisins.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it down to about 2 inches thick.
Cut out scones using a round cutter.
Place scones on a baking tray.
Brush the tops with the egg wash.
Bake for 18 minutes.
