Preheat oven to 425F.
Dump the ground beef into a large saute pan over medium-high heat.
Crumble the ground beef well as it cooks.
Add the diced onions to the pan with the ground beef while it's cooking.
Stir the onions and ground beef together well.
Once the ground beef is fully cooked, reduce the heat to low and drain the grease from the pan.
Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and onion powder to the pan.
Stir until all of the ground beef is coated in sauce.
Add the French's fried onions to the pan.
Stir well.
Dump the sloppy joe mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
Sprinkle 2 cups of the shredded cheese on top of the meat mixture.
Place the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
Place the dish in the oven and bake the casserole for 35 minutes.
After 35 minutes remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining cup of shredded cheese on top of the tater tots.
Return the dish to the oven and continue baking the casserole until the cheese on top is completely melted. 4-6 minutes.
Remove the dish from the oven.
Serve and enjoy!
