Heat the olive oil in a high-walled pan over medium-high heat.
Add the garlic and sautée for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Add the fava beans to the pan and fill with boiling water, just until the favas are covered.
Cover the pan and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover the pan, and cook for 30 minutes, until the fava beans are tender.
Uncover the pan and stir in the turmeric and cumin.
Remove the pan from heat and season to taste. Squeeze the lemon juice over the beans and serve.
