In a large mixing bowl, whisk together ½ cup of warm milk, 1 tbsp of water, 1 tsp of instant dry yeast, 1 tbsp of melted butter, 1 egg, and 1 tbsp of granulated sugar or honey.
Mix in 1 & ¾ cups of all purpose flour & ½ tsp of salt and knead until a smooth dough forms (about 5 minutes) The dough should be slightly tacky, but if it's too sticky to work with and knead, add 1-2 tbsp of all purpose flour when kneading until you get the right consistency.
Transfer the dough back to the mixing bowl and let it rise somewhere warm for 1-2 hours, or until fully doubled in size.
Once the dough has risen, divide it into 6 equal pieces. Shape into hot dog buns and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Brush the dough with melted butter and then place the baking sheet on top of your oven while it preheats to 375.
The buns should rise more and look puffy! Transfer to the oven and bake for 16-18 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
Brush with more melted butter and enjoy!
Store in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days, or freeze!
