In a small bowl whisk ½ cup of milk with the cornstarch.
If you want to add sugar to the cocoa, you can. Sometimes dark chocolate can be too bitter and this will sweeten it up. If you decide to add the sugar to the recipe, mix it in a bowl with the cocoa.
In a small pot heat 1½ cups plus 2 tablespoons of milk.
Heat on low/medium (You don’t want the milk to boil.) until it starts to slightly simmer.
Whisk in the cornstarch mixture.
Add the cocoa slowly until the milk becomes smooth.
Add the dark chocolate and stir until it is melted and the hot chocolate is thick.
Serve topped with whipped cream.
