Preheat the oven to 400°F.
In a small bowl mix together the yeast and warm water. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the buttermilk, softened butter, and yeast mixture to the bowl and stir until well combined and a dough is formed.
Knead the dough by hand on a lightly floured work surface for about 3 minutes.
Roll the dough out into a rectangle about ½-inch thick. Fold the dough rectangle in half and roll out into a rectangle ½-inch thick again. Fold the dough in half again and roll it out into a rectangle ½-inch thick one more time.
Use a round biscuit cutter (or an upside down glass) roughly 3-inches in diameter to cut out rounds of dough (about 9 biscuits in total). Place the dough rounds on a baking sheet at least 1-inch apart from each other.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 17 minutes or until the tops and bottoms of the biscuits are browned.
