Homemade Bread
  1. Add 2 cups warm water (warm enough like a baby bottle temp), 1 Tbsp active dry yeast and 1 Tbsp honey in a large bowl or the bowl of your stand mixer. Let bloom for 10 minutes. Once it's foamy it's ready to go.

  2. Add the 2 tsp salt, ¼ cup honey and 2 Tbsp melted butter. Mix with a spoon or turn your stand mixer on with the dough hook. Then add your 5 cups of flour and either mix until combined in a bowl, or if adding to stand mixer, add cup by cup while the dough hook is on. If using a bowl, knead by hand for 10 minutes. If using a stand mixer, mix for 8 minutes.

  3. You'll know it's ready when the dough is no longer sticky. If it's still sticky gradually add the last cup of flour until the dough pulls away from the bowl and doesn't stick.

  4. I grab the dough ball with one hand, and oil the same bowl with olive oil with the other hand, then plop the dough back in the bowl. Place a towel or plastic wrap over the bowl and set in a warm place to rise for one hour. I set on top of my oven, you can also put inside your oven, with the oven OFF but the oven light turned on.

  5. After one hour, toss some flour on your counter, punch the dough down the center of the bowl (my kids love this part) and plop out onto the counter. Split into 2 even sizes and pat flat, and then roll into a loaf, pinching each side underneath. Then place each loaf into a well oiled loaf pan, seam side down.

  6. Cover again and let rise for 30-45 minutes in the same warm spot. Bake in the oven at 350° for 30-35 minutes, or just until the top is a nice brown.

  7. Let sit in the pan for 10 minutes then remove from the loaf pan and let cool completely on a wire rack. Slice and enjoy 🍞
