In a bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine bread flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
Mix until a sticky dough forms. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a floured surface.
Shape the dough into an oval or rectangle, and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes. Just before baking, make shallow cuts on the top.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crusty. Allow it to cool on a wire rack.
