Grandma Sue's Sour Cream Chocolate Fudge Cake
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F

  2. Grease your pan(s)

  3. In a saucepan, melt butter + water + cocoa, whisking until smooth

  4. Remove from heat

  5. In a large bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, salt, and baking soda

  6. Pour the warm cocoa mixture over the dry ingredients and stir until combined

  7. Add sour cream, eggs, and vanilla

  8. Beat 30–45 seconds, just until smooth

  9. Pour into prepared pan(s) and bake for 22–28 minutes (9x13 pan), 18–22 minutes (13x18 sheet pan), 22–26 minutes (two 8-inch round pans), or 18–24 minutes (two 9-inch round pans)

  10. Cool completely before frosting

  11. In a saucepan, melt butter + milk + cocoa, whisking until smooth

  12. Remove from heat

  13. Whisk in powdered sugar + vanilla until glossy and smooth

  14. Spread frosting immediately

  15. Slice and serve
