In a large wide pot on medium heat, add the olive oil and chopped onion. Season with salt, pepper, turmeric and garlic powder. Sauté and mix the onion with the spices for 1 minute.
Add the ground beef and shawarma spice. Use a wooden spoon to spread out the beef.
Mix it all together with the beef and cook for 4-5 minutes until it is almost cooked.
Add the basmati rice and Amba sauce and mix it all well.
Pour 4 cups of boiling water, stir a bit and cover with a lid. Cook on low heat for 40-45 minutes.
Garnish with chopped parsley or cilantro and serve.
