Trim the turkey and pat it dry.
Season the turkey all over with salt.
Set up the smoker to maintain a temperature of around 225-250°F.
Place the turkey in the smoker, breast-side up, and smoke for about 1.5 hours, spritzing with apple cider vinegar every 20-30 minutes.
Once the breast reaches an internal temperature of 135°F, remove the turkey from the smoker.
Spread about 2 pounds of room temperature butter all over the turkey, including inside the cavity.
Wrap the turkey tightly in foil, placing it breast-side down.
Return the wrapped turkey to the smoker and continue cooking at 285-300°F for about 1-1.5 hours, until the thighs reach 175°F.
Remove the turkey from the smoker and let it rest for a few minutes.
Unwrap the turkey and pour the melted butter from the foil pan over the top.
Slice and serve the smoked turkey.
