Add oil to a pan over medium heat and add the minced garlic. Cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
Add the ground beef and break it apart. Let it sit undisturbed for a couple of minutes to develop browning, then continue cooking until mostly browned.
Add in gochujang, dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Stir well and continue cooking until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
Remove from the heat and serve over a fresh bowl of rice.
Optionally garnish with sesame seeds, scallions, and a fried egg.
