Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Combine coconut milk, sugar, and butter. Warm until butter has melted. Do not let it boil or overheat.
Pour into large mixing bowl, add yeast, mix. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
Then add the egg.
Stir in flour and salt to form a soft dough.
Turn dough on lightly floured surface and knead for 5 to 8 minutes.
Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover loosely and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 2 hours or until doubled.
Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into about 8 to 10 equal pieces and roll each dough into a ball.
Flatten each ball with your fingers.
Brush the surface of the dough with coconut milk or butter then fold the dough in half and brush again. Place dough on pan and repeat with remaining pieces.
Cover loosely and let it rest for about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
After rest. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until nicely browned on top.
Remove from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Brush with butter, if desired. Serve warm
