Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Pat the tofu dry or press if needed (see notes). Once dry cut into bite-size shapes, such as triangle. Place in a resealable plastic bag.
To the bag of tofu add the oil, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Seal the bag and gently shake until all the tofu is generously coated.
Place the coated tofu in a single layer, on a lined baking sheet, and place in the oven. Bake for 20 minutes, turning half way through.
After 20 minuted remove from the oven and brush BBQ sauce over each piece of tofu. Return to the oven and bake 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, remove the pan from the oven, flip the pieces, coat with BBQ sauce and bake for another 5 minutes.
Top with green onions or sesame seeds and enjoy!
