  1. Slice the cucumbers and the onion.

  2. Layer the cucumbers in the bottom of a shallow dish. Then layer the onions. Add salt and fresh ground pepper. Sprinkle half the sugar on this layer.

  3. Repeat the layering with cucumbers, onions, salt, pepper, and sugar.

  4. Add the vinegar then the oil.

  5. Refrigerate, shake it around a couple of times, and serve.
