In a bowl, mix turmeric powder, cumin powder, Kashmiri chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder with ⅓ cup water to make spice paste
Heat oil over medium heat
Add dry bay leaves, cinnamon stick, green cardamoms, and cumin seeds; allow seeds to splutter
Add chopped onions with ¼ teaspoon salt and stir on medium heat until slightly brown
Add spice paste and fry on low heat for 2-3 minutes
Add chopped green chilli, grated ginger, and grated garlic; fry on medium heat until oil floats on top
Add crushed tomatoes with ½ teaspoon salt and stir on medium heat until tomatoes are well cooked and oil separates
Make smooth cashew nut paste by blending soaked cashew nuts
Add cashew nut paste after tomatoes and onions have become one mass
Cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, until oil oozes out along sides or floats on top
Remove bay leaves and cinnamon stick
Store in airtight container in refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze in portions for up to 6 months
