Create the Heart-Shaped Cake Layers: Use a serrated knife to cut the two smaller pieces off the first cake layer to form the pointed part of the heart. Repeat with the second cake layer.
Assemble & Crumb Coat the Cake: Place the cardboard base on the turntable, spread buttercream on it, and add the first cake layer. Position the curved pieces on top and pipe buttercream to adhere them. Add buttercream filling and the second layer, then crumb coat the cake.
Frost the Cake: Smooth the buttercream finish on the chilled, crumb-coated cake using an angled spatula and icing smoother.
Color the Buttercream (Optional): Divide the remaining buttercream into three bowls and tint with food color gels.
Create the Vintage Piping: Pipe a large shell border on the top and bottom edges of the cake, then pipe smaller shell borders and ruffle garlands on the sides.
Write a Message: Use the remaining buttercream to pipe a message on top of the cake.
