Nana Shirley's Chicken Soup
  1. Remove congealed fat from chicken breasts and place in a pot.

  2. Add water and bring to a boil.

  3. Peel sweet potato, carrots, onions, parsnips, and garlic.

  4. Add vegetables, salt, pepper, and sugar to the pot.

  5. Simmer for 2 ½ to 3 hours.

  6. Remove chicken, vegetables, and herbs from the pot.

  7. Shred chicken and return half to the pot.

  8. Cut carrots, parsnips, and onion into chunks and add back to the pot.

  9. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

  10. Serve hot.
