Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Wash the potatoes carefully under running water, using a soft brush if necessary to remove any dirt or residue from the skin. Do not peel the potatoes; the skin is important for maintaining texture and flavor during cooking. Make sure to dry them thoroughly with a clean towel.
Rub the potatoes with about 2 tablespoons of olive oil, ensuring the entire surface of each potato is covered. Sprinkle one teaspoon of coarse salt over each potato.
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet, leaving enough space between them for hot air to circulate.
Bake the potatoes for 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the size. Halfway through cooking, turn the potatoes to ensure that all sides cook evenly.
To check if the potatoes are done, insert a knife or fork into the center of one. If it slides in easily, the potatoes are ready.
Remove the potatoes from the oven and let them cool slightly before cutting. Serve with toppings of your choice.
