  1. Place the dry ingredients into a bowl and stir to combine, reserving a pinch of chives to garnish

  2. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add the milk and melted butter. Season with salt and pepper, then slowly whisk into the dry ingredients until you have a nice smooth batter

  3. Turn on the waffle iron and wait until it has reached maximum temperature before ladling in the batter. Close the lid and cook until crispy and golden – how long this takes will depend on your waffle iron, but should be around 5 minutes

  4. Serve hot with a sprinkling of chives, lashings of butter and ham, a fried egg or extra cheese
