In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Remove excess fat if necessary.
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and softened.
Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften.
Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and flavors are well combined.
Serve hot as a hearty main dish or with rice, mashed potatoes, or crusty bread.
