Blind bake the pie shell or prepare it according to package directions.
In a large mixing bowl, add the sugar, flour and salt. Whisk to combine.
In a medium mixing bowl, add the eggs, melted butter and bourbon. Whisk to combine.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk or stir to combine.
Add the pecans and chocolate chips. Stir to combine.
Pour the mixture into the pie shell, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
Bake in an oven that's been preheated to 325 degrees F until the edges of the crust and the top of the pie are golden brown and the center is firm, about 40 to 50 minutes.
Allow pie to cool completely before cutting and serving. Top with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
