Grate the castile soap bar using a cheese grater until you have about one cup of soap flakes.
In a small saucepan, combine the grated soap with four cups of hot water and heat on low, stirring gently for about 10 minutes until the soap is completely dissolved, making sure it doesn't boil.
Fill a five-gallon bucket halfway with the hottest tap water you can get.
Pour the melted soap mixture into the bucket.
Add one cup of washing soda and one cup of borax to the bucket, then stir slowly with a long wooden spoon for about two minutes until the mixture's texture changes.
Top off the bucket with cold water until it is full, then secure the lid.
Allow the mixture to sit overnight (approximately 12 hours) until it thickens into a semi-translucent gel.
For each laundry load, use about half a cup of the gel, adding it directly to the drum or detergent tray.
