Moscato Poached Pears
  1. Peel the pears, leaving the stalks intact. Cut a slice from the bottom so that they stand upright. Peel and mince the ginger and zest and juice the lemon.

  2. In a pan big enough to fit the pears snugly, heat the wine, sugar, ginger, lemon juice and zest and star anise, stirring until sugar is dissolved.

  3. 3 Put the pears in the pan, pouring in enough water to cover. Bring to a simmer and cook on low heat, partially covered, 50 min. Remove the pears with a slotted spoon to a serving dish and let the liquid continue to cook on medium heat, about 10 min., or until reduced to a syrup. Pour over the pears.
