Thaw hash browns and place in large bowl.
Add shredded Gouda cheese.
Saute onions and garlic until translucent in 1-2 T. olive oil and add to bowl.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Mix together.
Mix salt and msg into heavy cream and stir until combined.
Put hash brown mixture in a greased 9 x 13 pan.
Drizzle the heavy cream mixture over the hash browns in the pan.
Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour.
Remove from oven, cover with foil and let sit for 10 minutes before serving.
Cut in squares and serve.
