Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Peel and thinly slice the potatoes.
Melt the butter in a skillet and sauté the garlic until fragrant.
Layer the sliced potatoes in a pie dish, sprinkling each layer with Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper.
Pour the melted butter with garlic over the top of the layered potatoes.
Cover the pie dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 45-50 minutes.
Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes until the top is golden brown.
